Everything You Need to Know About the State of New Jersey (NJ)

During the American Revolution, New Jersey served as a significant battleground. New Jersey, the most populous state in the union, is sandwiched between New York and Pennsylvania at the center of the busy Atlantic Corridor. New Jersey was named for the island of Jersey in the English Channel. With more than 50 oceanfront resort towns, including Asbury Park, Atlantic City, and Cape May, New Jersey has long been a well-loved vacation destination. Several notable musicians are from the state, including Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, and Jon Bon Jovi. Although it has a reputation as an industrial hub, New Jersey is a major producer of cranberries, blueberries, and tomatoes, earning the moniker “Garden State.”

The state of New York borders it on the north and east; the Atlantic Ocean on the east, southeast, and south; the Delaware River and Pennsylvania on the west; and Delaware Bay and the State of Delaware on the southwest. Trenton serves as the state capital of New Jersey, which attained statehood on December 18, 1787. Liberty and Prosperity, the state slogan, captures the effervescent face of the state.

Thomas Edison created hundreds of inventions in his Menlo Park laboratory during the final quarter of the 19th century. This included the phonograph, which recorded and replayed sound, and an electric-powered railway. However, he is best known for developing the incandescent light bulb with a bamboo filament and creating a mechanism for widely distributing electricity.
William Parker Foulke discovered the first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton in North America at Haddonfield, New Jersey, in 1858. In 1868, it was the first dinosaur skeleton in the world to be displayed in an exhibit.
The well-known soft candy in bite-sized form, salt-water taffy, was invented on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in the 1880s.
Opening to traffic between New Jersey and New York on November 13, 1927, the Holland Tunnel became the first mechanically ventilated underwater tunnel. The tunnel lies roughly 93 feet beneath the Hudson River at maximum depth.
The "Crossroads of the Revolution," New Jersey, was the site of more than 100 battles during the fight for American independence.
Car Shipping in and out of New Jersey

The need to relocate, go on a vacation, or study are a few reasons you may need your car shipped to or from New Jersey. However, the reason you need to ship your vehicle does not matter. What matters is that your car is shipped as safely and as smoothly as possible. For this to happen, we need to consider certain factors that will help make your shipping process more straightforward.

Finding the Best Car Shipping Company in New Jersey

Choosing the best car shipping company is vital in shipping your vehicle to or from New Jersey. This is because choosing the wrong company can have profound implications, including uncompensated damage to your car. To avoid this, you need to select your car shipping company carefully. The following are tips that will help with your selection.

  1. Reputation

If you are not choosing a company based on a personal reference, then it is crucial that you research the credibility of the company. Some companies are out to exploit unsuspecting customers. You should not fall victim to them. Instead, make inquiries, listen to what previous customers have to say about them, and base your judgment on this.

  1. Experience

Having sufficient experience always makes any process easier. Car shipping is not an exception. Before deciding on a company, confirm that they have a reasonable level of experience with the car shipping process in New Jersey. It can be expected that novices in the business will experience certain mishaps due to a lack of experience.

  1. Licenses and Registration

Certain licenses and registrations are required to run an auto transport company in New Jersey. Engaging a company without such licenses puts you and your car at risk.

  1. Communication and Transparency

When you reach out to a company and request for a quote, you should pay close attention to their response. You should ensure that whatever quote you receive is straightforward and easy to understand. In addition, the quote should clearly show how much you are paying and what service the payment covers. This is to ensure there are no hidden costs in the quote.

Factors Influencing Car Shipping Costs

There is a reason car shipping companies request certain information before offering you a quote. This is because different factors affect the cost of shipping a car. Some of these factors are:

  1. Method of Shipping

There are two primary shipping methods: the open method and the enclosed method. The open method involves shipping vehicles on an open car carrier. Cars shipped this will be exposed to harsh weather elements (like rain, snow, and dust) in additional to common road debris throughout the entire transport process. Nevertheless, this method is naturally cheaper.

The enclosed method ships vehicles using a covered or enclosed vehicle carrier. Even though this method is more expensive, it provides the advantage of protecting your car from all external factors such as inclement weather and debris.

  1. Peak Seasons

The spring and summer seasons are, the busiest times in the car shipping business. This is because most people whom relocate or travel long distances move during these times. Hence, the demand for car shipping companies and their services are in must higher demand during peak seasons, and subsequently, it costs more to ship.  This will also likely affect the delivery times.

  1. Vehicle Specification

Your car’s specification is also a determinant of its shipping costs. For example, large vehicles take up more space than smaller ones, and as a result, they cost more. Conversely, lightweight cars cost less than heavy ones.  Other factors that affect the price are vehicles that are over dimensional, have body kit modifications, or are very low to the ground.

  1. Operational Status

If your car is in perfect working condition and can move on its own, it will cost less than if it needs to be moved because it does not start.

New Jersey Transit offers extensive statewide rail service.   Now, eleven commuter rail lines operated by the New Jersey Transit pass through various regions of the state. Most lines terminate at either Hoboken Terminal in Hoboken or Penn Station in New York City. A single line connects Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Atlantic City. Additionally, it runs three light rail networks throughout the state. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail links Bayonne to North Bergen through Hoboken and Jersey City. The Newark Light Rail is partly underground and connects downtown Newark with Belleville and Bloomfield. The River Line connects Trenton to Camden.

The PATH is a rapid transit system with four lines managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It links Hoboken, Jersey City, Harrison, and Newark with New York. The PATCO Speedline is a rapid transit system connecting Camden County to Philadelphia. PATCO and PATH are the only two rapid transit systems in the United States to operate 24 hours a day.

Amtrak operates numerous long-distance passenger trains in New Jersey, to and from neighboring states, and around the country. In addition to the Newark Airport connection, other major Amtrak railway stations include Trenton Transit Center, Metropark, and the notable Newark Penn Station. AirTrain Newark is a monorail that links the Amtrak/New Jersey Transit station on the Northeast Corridor to the airport’s terminals and parking lots.

The New Jersey Turnpike is one of the primary and busiest roads in the United States. This toll road overlaps Interstate 95 for most of its length. It is routed between Delaware and New York and up and down the East Coast. Simply referred to as “the Turnpike”, it is known for its numerous restful areas named after prominent New Jerseyites.

The state is connected to New York City by various major bridges and tunnels. The double-decked George Washington Bridge has the greatest motor vehicle traffic than any other bridge. This traffic is estimated at 102 million vehicles per year across fourteen lanes. It includes Fort Lee, New Jersey, to the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan.

Route 1/9 across the Hudson River. The Lincoln Tunnel connects to Midtown Manhattan carrying New Jersey Route 495, connecting the Holland Tunnel to Lower Manhattan carrying Interstate 78. New Jersey is also linked to Staten Island by three bridges—from north to south, the Bayonne Bridge, the Goethals Bridge, and the Outerbridge Crossing.

It is unlawful for customers to fill their gasoline in New Jersey. The state also became the last remaining U.S. state where all gas stations are required to sell full-service gas to customers at all times.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the busiest and popular airports in the United States. Operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, it is one of the three main airports serving the New York metropolitan area. United Airlines is the airport’s largest tenant, operating an entire terminal there, which it uses as one of its primary hubs. FedEx Express operates a large cargo terminal at EWR as well. The adjacent Newark Airport railroad station provides access to Amtrak and NJ Transit trains along the Northeast Corridor Line.

Two smaller commercial airports, Atlantic City International Airport and rapidly growing Trenton-Mercer Airport, also operate in other parts of the state. Teterboro Airport in Bergen County, and Millville Municipal Airport in Cumberland County, are general aviation airports popular with private and corporate aircraft due to their proximity to New York City and the Jersey Shore, respectively.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Delaware River Port Authority, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, and the Delaware River and Bay Authority manage most of the major transportation routes in and out of New Jersey. Bridge tolls are retrieved from vehicles exiting the state. The only exception is the private Dingman’s Ferry Bridge over the Delaware River. It charges a toll in both directions.

New York Waterway has ferry terminals at Belford, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, and Edgewater, servicing different parts of Manhattan. Liberty Water Taxi in New Jersey has ferries from Paulus Hook and Liberty State Park to Battery Park City in Manhattan. Statue Cruises offers services from Liberty State Park to the Statue of Liberty National Monument, including Ellis Island. SeaStreak offers services from the Raritan Bayshore to Manhattan, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

The Delaware River and Bay Authority operate the Cape May–Lewes Ferry on Delaware Bay, carrying both passengers and vehicles between New Jersey and Delaware. The agency also operates the Forts Ferry Crossing for passengers across the Delaware River. In addition, the Delaware River Port Authority operates the RiverLink Ferry between the Camden waterfront and Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia.

I had a classic VW Beetle shipped from California to New York. Danny (the representative from Ship A Car) was the BEST! He explained everything to me step by step. I had never shipped a car before and I called a bunch of different companies and was feeling leery. But Danny was patient, very kind, and trustworthy. He explained everything to me. He encouraged me to look up the company on the BBB website, which I did. After doing my research, I knew this was the company for me. If you need to ship a car, CALL DANNY He's aces! My car arrived as scheduled and the price was fair. Thanks Dan - you're the best!

I had a little longer wait due to truck issues and the road. However, Bob Moran was beyond useful and helped me in more than one way. His customer service let alone human compassion for the things i was or might have been going through was very much appreciated during this huge transition in my life. I would recommend ship a car inc. And ask for Bob!

The transport company I chose didn't show up and it was pretty bad. I switched to Ship A Car and I liked their communication. People let me know what's going on and I'm good. When I called to ask about anything, a person was there and responded. He called me to let me know that he had someone to pick up the car. From then on, it was good until delivery. After delivery, I got a follow-up call so it went well.   The transport was from South Carolina to Utah, which was about 2,200 miles. When the car was picked up, it took a couple of days. There were two drivers and they just continually drove. I couldn't believe it. The final rate was what was decided upon. The only thing was the payment was a cash requirement. I had just moved here to Utah and I just opened an account. The money was held because it came from another state so I didn't have cash. That posed a problem on delivery because checks or credit cards weren't accepted. If a credit card were accepted, that would have helped tremendously. Other than that, I would recommend Ship A Car.
